Indiana Basketball: Lineup Report | Maryland — Jan 26, 2020

Unable to pull off the comeback, the Hoosiers utilized just 16 unique lineups in their heartbreaking loss to No. 17 Maryland at home. Without the services of Race Thompson (injury) and Trayce Jackson-Davis (foul trouble) in the first half, the Hoosiers relied on Jerome Hunter who tied his career high of 12 points. Despite a career performance, Hunter had a team low of -10 in his individual plus/minus. We bring up this point that the plus/minus is a metric to consider, but it is not a perfect indicator of individual contribution.

Notes from the Lineup Report

• The Hoosiers utilized only 16 unique lineups, which has been a low since the creation of the Indiana lineup reports by IndianaHQ. This could be a sign of Archie Miller continuing to shorten the rotation and to let players build momentum on the floor.
• In Sunday’s loss, Archie Miller did not use any substitutions during the final 2:37. He remained steadfast on the group of Phinisee, Green, Hunter, Smith, and Jackson-Davis in crunch time.
• Armaan Franklin led IU at +7 in the ballgame, but he saw the floor for only 5 minutes each half. He did not play in the final 7:37.
• With Race Thompson out and Trayce Jackson-Davis in foul trouble, Miller played Jerome Hunter and Justin Smith together more frequently — a total of 22:50 to be exact. In that time, Indiana went -15. Indiana might be better off staggering their minutes in the future.
