Indiana Basketball: Lineup Report | Penn State — Feb 23, 2020

The Hoosiers earned a resume-building win just at the perfect time on Sunday as they took down No. 9 Penn State 68-60. Indiana earned their sixth Quadrant I victory, which should greatly boost the Hoosiers’ chances of earning an at-large bid for the 2020 NCAA Tournament. There is still work left to do with four games remaining on the schedule, but Archie Miller may have found a number of lineups that are starting to work well.

Notes from the Lineup Report

• Indiana’s starting lineup of Phinisee, Durham, Smith, Jackson-Davis and Brunk were outscored by 5 points in the 4:21 that they played on Sunday. That was the lowest plus-minus of any of the 24 unique groups that Archie Miller played on Sunday.
• On a related note, Brunk played a season-low 6:05. He has not scored in consecutive games.
• For the first time all season, the group of Phinisee, Green, Smith, Thompson, and De’Ron Davis took the floor together, and IU outscored PSU by five in the 1:54 during which they played. Keep an eye out for this unit going forward.
• Sunday was Race Thompson’s 3rd time in four games leading Indiana in plus-minus. He tied De’Ron Davis with the team lead at +13.
• While Thompson is considered by many to be a defensive force, IU’s offense was boosted by his presence on Sunday. The Hoosiers scored 45 points in the 21 minutes he played (2.1 points per minute). When he was on the bench, IU scored just 23 points in 19 minutes (1.2 points per minute).
