After all the IU football pledges recently, Mike Woodson can now get in on the action.
On Friday afternoon, Kaleb Banks, a 6-foot-8, 4-star power forward out of Fayetteville, GA, announced his commitment to play for Woodson and the Indiana Hoosiers. Banks is the second 2022 prospect to pledge for the Hoosiers, after Lawrence North product CJ Gunn did so in February. Indiana now has the 14th-ranked recruiting class in the country for 2022 per 247Sports.
247Sports gives Banks a 90 grade, rates him the 124th overall prospect in the country, and has him as the 20th-ranked PF. Banks is a 4-star player according to ESPN also.
Banks plays his high school basketball at Fayette County HS in Fayetteville, Georgia, a city located less than 45 minutes from Atlanta. He held an offer from the in-state Georgia Bulldogs (coached by former IU boss Tom Crean), as well as Alabama, Cincinnati, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Miami, Mississippi State, and Xavier. Virginia head coach Tony Bennett also watched Banks play in Fayette County’s June 25 contest.
Banks received his offer from Indiana in mid-April, not even a month after Woodson and the new Indiana coaching staff were put into place. Banks visited Bloomington in the second weekend of June, and had a strong showing at the Adidas 3SSB AAU event in early July for his team, Atlanta Celtics.
All indications are that new assistant Yasir Rosemond played a critical role in Banks’ recruitment. In Banks’ official tweet confirming a Hoosiers offer, Rosemond was tagged. Rosemond also has strong recruiting ties in the South from his time as an assistant at Samford, Georgia, and Alabama, which were his last three jobs before joining Woodson’s staff. Rosemond’s hometown is Atlanta, where he attended Douglass High School.
