The Indiana Hoosiers basketball teams announced they will be holding a virtual Hoosier Hysteria event starting with the women’s team at 7:30 p.m. followed by the men’s team at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 18.

The event will give Hoosier fans a look at what they can expect from both programs before the college basketball season starts on Nov. 25.

A news release announcing the virtual event said fans can watch this year’s highly anticipated Hoosier Hysteria via Facebook Live on both the Indiana women’s and men’s basketball Facebook page.

In addition to time and date of the event, the release also asked fans to donate “whatever they can” to the Hoosier Hills Food Bank as the holiday season approaches.

The release left some questions unanswered, however, for the event itself. Not specifying on whether or not there will be a dunk contest, 3-point contest, skills competition, or a brief scrimmage as there has been in the past.

Whatever takes place, Indiana fans will get their first look at the class of 2020. Players including, Trey Galloway, Anthony Leal, Jordan Geronimo and Khristian Lander will get their first action in an IU uniform as they participate throughout the night.

The change from in-person to a virtual event comes in response to the many concerns revolving around COVID-19. Unfortunately, watching from home could become a form of normalcy for Indiana Basketball fans as COVID-19 numbers continue to soar in the state of Indiana.

With COVID-19 related concerns becoming more prevalent than ever, it does not seem likely that there will be fans in attendance for the 2020-2021 season for either basketball programs.
