BLOOMINGTON, IN — The Hoosiers come away with a commanding victory against Chicago State University 104-55. Great play from Romeo Langford and Evan Fitzner in the first half allowed Archie Miller to utilize an arsenal of lineup rotations.
Rob Phinisee picked up two fouls early which prevented him from having the same first half impact like he did against Southern Indiana. Devonte Green came in for his season debut to replace him early and immediately hit a three on a quick pass from Romeo Langford. Additionally, De’Ron Davis made his season debut after suffering from an achilles injury last January.
The major story of the game was top recruit Romeo Langford. He began to control the ball early and facilitate, then gravitated towards scoring as the half went on. He led the team in scoring after the first half through mid-range shooting and slicing through Chicago State’s 2-3 zone defense. Langford finished with 19 points in 26 minutes.
Furthermore, Evan Fitzner did damage all over the court scoring most of his points inside, hitting a 3, and grabbing 5 first half boards. Fitzner scored 14 points and grabbed 6 boards in only 16 minutes of playing time
Moving forward, Indiana needs to look back at this game concerning free throw and three-point shooting. The team ended the night shooting 58% from the line and 33% from deep. Romeo Langford shot 5-11, De’Ron Davis shot 0-3, and Justin Smith shot 5-8 from the line. Heading into Big Ten play, it will be critical to improve at the line and from deep.
Overall, a dominant showing by the Hoosiers all over the court.
On to Montana State.
