Senior Nick Westbrook has been listed on another preseason watchlist this Thursday – the Wuerffel Trophy Watchlist. He has also been listed to on the Allstate Good Works Team.
The Wuerffel Trophy presented by Chick-fil-A Foundation is presented each February in Fort Walton Beach and is the college football nation’s award for community service. It was named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel from University of Florida. The winner is chosen based on a combination of community service, athletic and academic achievement.
Westbrook is a frequent volunteer at Everybody Plays – a sports program created by Indiana Women’s Soccer player Allison Jorden. Everybody Plays is a program that offers sports themed events for intellectually and physically disabled individuals to participate. Westbrook also volunteers at Riley Children’s Hospital and Generosity Feeds.
Westbrook enters his final season with team best totals with 590 yards, and 49.2 yards/game and 14.0 yards per catch in 2018. He has also been a two-time Biletnikoff Award Watch List designee and three-time Academic All-Big selection.
The winner of the Wuerffel Trophy will be at the National Football Foundation’s festivities in NYC on December 10. The trophy presentation will occur on February 14, 2020 at Fort Walton Beach. Last year’s winner was Drue Tranquill from Notre Dame.
