Per multiple reports including Marion area-radio, Vijay Blackmon is planning to return back to Indiana for his red-shirt junior season. Earlier this April, Vijay Blackmon declared his intention to transfer and he had submitted his name for the NCAA transfer portal.
Given Indiana’s roster situation and a number of missed guard targets in the past month, the available guard minutes for Vijay Blackmon seemed to have ballooned. Now he has the opportunity to have a larger role with the Indiana program, at least for the immediate season.
Vijay graduated with his bachelor’s degree this May in under three year’s of college. If he were to have transferred, Blackmon could have used the graduate transfer route which would have let him play immediately at another school. According to Jon Rothschild, Vijay Blackmon received Division 1 offers once he put his name in the transfer portal. He had a notable workout with former Indiana head coach Mike Davis at his current school Detroit-Mercy.
Also worth noting, the Hoosiers have two scholarships that are available. With Vijay Blackmon being a walk-on last year, it will be interesting to see if the staff plans to use their open scholarships creatively. Many believed that Zach McRoberts would have received a scholarship had Indiana had an extra scholarship, but that ended up not being the case.
More about Vijay Blackmon
Vijay Blackmon joined the Indiana program in 2017, after playing a single season at the University of St. Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana. During his time at NAIA school St. Francis, Vijay scored just under 10 points per game and played in 22 games before departing the program in January of 2017.
