Indiana baseball will not be hosting a regional site for the 2019 NCAA Tournament. The NCAA announced the sites of the 16 regional host locations, which roughly represent the top 16 teams for the upcoming NCAA tournament. There are a number of minor limitations that may allow a team not in the top 16 to host a regional. Bloomington was not in the list of regional locations announced today.
While disappointing for Indiana, it was not necessarily unexpected for the Hoosiers. Top-seeded Indiana lost quickly out of the Big Ten tournament with an 0-2 record in Omaha. Indiana needed to win the Big Ten tournament for Bloomington to even have an outside chance of being in considered as one of the potential host sites.
That being said, Indiana is squarely in the mix as a potential 2 or 3 seed in the upcoming 2019 NCAA Tournament. After winning the Big Ten conference outright for the first time since 2014 and taking home coach of the year and other individual player awards, Indiana baseball will find out their fate Monday, May 27th at noon (12:00 pm EST) when the entire 2019 NCAA Baseball Tournament bracket is revealed on ESPNU. We will have more coverage and analysis of Indiana’s selected regional.
