INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The Hoosiers sweep both 2019 Indiana Miss Basketball and 2019 Mr. Basketball awards. Incoming five-star freshman Jorie Allen was named the 2019 IndyStar Miss Basketball award. With her 56 total votes, she beat out North Harrison’s Lilly Hatton (36 votes), Warren Central’s Shaila Beeler (32 votes), and Marquette Cathloic’s Emma Nolan (20 votes).

Allen is part of a nationally ranked recruiting class, which recently got even deeper with an addition of a 6-foot-5 forward Hannah Noveroske from Michigan City, Indiana. Jorie leads the 2019 recruiting class for Teri Moren at 52nd in the ESPN Top 100 high school girls basketball rankings for 2019. 6-foot-3 MacKenzie Holmes is right adjacent to Allen at number 53. Both players are rated five-stars by the ESPN metrics.

At Clowes Memorial Hall at Butler University, Jorie Allen discussed the opportunity she has at Indiana University, although she was offered by Michigan State, where her sister Jenna Allen played collegiate basketball. Her older sister came and watched her play, wearing her green Michigan State jersey, but ultimately Jorie decided to create a path for her own and play at Indiana, citing that her personality fit better at Indiana.

“I’ll keep (the jersey) as a keepsake, but I won’t be wearing it anymore. I had a chance to go there and really liked Michigan State. But I felt the fit personality-wise was better at Indiana.”

During her final season at Bedford North Lawrence, Jorie Allen averaged 19.1 points, 8 boards, 1.3 steals, and 3.3 assists per game. She scored 1,930 points during her four-year career at Bedford North Lawrence and now holds the Bedford North Lawrence career scoring record.

Jorie Allen marks only the third Miss Indiana basketball to play for Indiana University. While the award does not date as far back as the Mr. Basketball counterpart, the Hoosiers have only had two other Miss Basketballs play for the Hoosiers: Lori Meinerding (1987) and Notre Dame transfer Ali Patberg (2015). Teri Moren has not only tripled the number of Indiana Miss Basketball award winners, she is going to start both of them on the floor next season.
