According to Jeff Rabjohns of Peegs.com, Indiana defeated Loyola Chicago in a closed scrimmage on Sunday afternoon. The Hoosiers traveled to Bankers Life Fieldhouse where they competed against Porter Moser’s team that reached the final four last year.
They will return back on Interstate 37 victorious.
In a tweet that was quickly removed, Romeo Langford’s videographer Frankie Vision posted a graphic sharing that Romeo Langford had 19 points and 10 rebounds.
The Fast-Break
- Winning against a historic Loyola Chicago team that returned the Missouri Valley’s player of the year in any setting is notable. Archie Miller is in his second year and players at most only have two years under Archie. Loyola Chicago has the advantage of also having three and four-year players under head coach Moser.
- This contest represented an early opportunity to answer questions about the team before the heavy-weight battles take place, starting with hosting Marquette at home. “Can the Hoosiers compete against one of the top teams in the nation?” may have been on the list of questions for Archie Miller going into the game, but that list most likely had even more important questions. How much further along is the defense? Can the freshmen compete at the collegiate level? Is the team still ill with the “free-throw bug?” Has the point-guard position improved?
- Early signs indicate that Romeo Langford will be the Romeo Langford we know. At the current moment, a final box score has not been leaked from the scrimmage. Assuming the above mentioned tweet is accurate, many analysts who questioned if Romeo Langford would be as good when playing against tougher collegiate competition may be able to now assuage some of their concerns.
What’s Next
Indiana hosts University of Southern Indiana next in their first exhibition game of the season. Unlike today’s scrimmage, the game on Thursday, November 1st, will be broadcasted on BTN+ at 7:00 pm EST.
