BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Trey Patterson from Rutgers (NJ) Prep and member of Team Rio AAU basketball club committed to Villanova.
“I’m going to Nova and I chose them because I feel like their system is most catered to me and I fit into their system well,” stated Patterson. “I built a great relationship with Jay Wright and the coaching staff.”
Per 247Composite rankings, he is listed as a 4-star prospect (0.9861) and currently the No. 34 overall recruit. He was down to Villanova, Florida, and Indiana for his final three schools. He announced his decision today on Youtube around family and coaches. This is the second 2021 commitment that the Wildcats have on the year as he joins 4-star center Nnanna Njoku at Villanova.
What this means for Indiana
It was almost a year ago today that he received his offer from Archie Miller and Indiana. Archie Miller still holds a top-35 recruiting class after the commitment of Logan Duncomb earlier this year.
Indiana still has a number of potential recruits in the class of 2021 that have offers including Aminu Mohammed (5-star), Trey Kaufman (4-star), and Jordan Longino (4-star). We expect to see more commitments over the next several months and throughout the fall as the recruitment season continues for Archie Miller and the Hoosiers.
The commitment of Trey Patterson to Villanova opens up the option for 5-star Aminu Mohammed to join Indiana with less competition for the small forward position. However, Aminu is being heavily recruited by numerous schools at the moment including Kansas State, Louisville, and Maryland.
